Estate Cleanout in Prairie Village
A lot of Prairie Village houses change hands one of two ways: a family settles a parent’s estate, or a buyer plans to tear down and rebuild. Either way, the house has to be emptied first — basement included. Half a truck is $431, a full one $732.
Built for Returning Soldiers
J.C. Nichols platted Prairie Village in 1941 for families of returning soldiers. Its shopping center opened in 1947, the National Association of Home Builders named it the “best planned community in America” in 1949, and it incorporated in 1951.
The typical home dates to 1959, and many of these post-war houses are now being replaced with new construction. Next door, Mission Hills has some of the region’s largest estates.
