Minimum visit is $75. Typical real-world outcome: a furnished studio or one-bedroom is a quarter to three-eighths truck, a two-bedroom is a half, a stuffed three-bedroom with a storage unit's worth in it heads toward three-quarters.
Where apartment cleanouts happen in Kansas City
The metro's rental stock splits into three different problems.
- Older courtyard buildings and converted houses — Westport, Midtown, Hyde Park, Volker, parts of the Plaza fringe. Exterior stair runs, narrow interior stairs, tiny landings, street parking that fills up by 6pm. Great buildings, hard carries.
- Downtown, Crossroads and River Market lofts. Freight elevators, loading docks, and building rules about which door you use and when.
- Garden complexes in the suburbs — Overland Park, Lenexa, Shawnee, Independence, Gladstone, Lee's Summit. Ground-floor units are easy; third-floor walk-ups with an outside staircase in February are not.
All three are the same flat price. There is no stair charge and no walk-up fee.
What drives the number
Volume, not difficulty. What actually fills a truck in a Kansas City apartment:
- The sofa. Always the sofa.
- The bed. Queen set $143, twin $82, king set still $143 as a set.
- Particleboard flat-pack that did not survive the last move — a flat-pack bookcase is $100, a desk is $83, an office chair is $61.
- The kitchen and bathroom sweep, which is bags: 10 bags of debris $132, 15 bags $196, 20 bags $259.
- The balcony. Patio table $89, patio chair $30 each, charcoal grill $59, propane grill $71.

Notice the third row. When the item list creeps past the truck price, the truck price wins. The quote compares both automatically.
Move-out season in Kansas City
Leases in this metro cluster hard around month-end, and the worst weeks are late spring into midsummer. Add UMKC and Rockhurst clearing out, plus the annual churn in the Westport and Midtown rental blocks, and you get a few Saturdays where every truck in town is committed.
The practical move is to book the day after your movers, not the same day. You do not want the junk crew and the moving truck competing for the same two street spaces on a narrow Midtown block, or the same dock slot downtown.
Winter has its own trick: if your unit is a third-floor walk-up with an exterior staircase, the carry happens in whatever the weather is. That does not change your price, but it is worth clearing ice off the treads before the crew arrives.
Getting your deposit back
Property managers across the metro deduct for anything left behind, and they deduct at their own rates, not at ours. Common charges people eat:
- A mattress left leaning by the dumpster enclosure.
- A sofa in the breezeway because it would not go back down the stairs.
- Bagged trash left in the unit.
- Balcony furniture nobody wanted to carry down.
A half truck at $431 that clears all of it is normally cheaper than the deductions, and it is certainly cheaper than the argument.
What the crew handles
- Carry-out from any floor, including exterior stairs and long breezeways.
- Elevator and dock coordination if the building requires it — tell us the rules when you book.
- Loading and disposal, both included in the price you saw.
- A sweep of the unit so it is broom-ready for the walkthrough.
Bring the building's contact info if there is a certificate or an access code involved. Downtown loft buildings tend to ask.
